Abstract

In the first decades of the 21st century we are witnessing a renewed interest from the academic centers of the central countries, Western Europe and North America, for the concept of populism. Interest that translates into an increase in the bibliographic corpus on it, generating a new chapter in the historical evolution of the concept. The present work aims to analyze this last chapter, in which a primacy is observed for trying to capture the phenomenon from minimal definitions. In this order, we will present the most relevant perspectives within this set and we will try to point out the deficiencies that they share beyond their differences. Deficiencies that we suspect have their origin in this concept-building strategy.
