Exploring the Significance of the Zapatista Movement in Indigenous Identity
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the importance of the Zapatista movement in contemporary
indigenous identity in Mexico, focusing on the Zapatista Army of National Liberation
(EZLN). The central question is: How has the Zapatista movement contributed to
strengthening the resistance and struggle of indigenous peoples in Mexico? The study
adopts a qualitative approach, using documentary analysis and a narrative literature
review. The EZLN is seen as an inspirational model for indigenous communities in
Latin America, standing out as a response to the social exclusion and poverty imposed
by capitalism. The analysis reveals that the movement denounces the historical impacts
of colonization, in addition to promoting organized resistance and solidarity among
indigenous peoples in the struggle for justice, dignity and recognition.
