History:

In 2009, the Electronic Journal Portal Project of the National University of Comahue was launched, after an exhaustive software testing process carried out by library staff for electronic publications. To do this, it selected OJS (Open Journal System), an open source program designed to manage and publish academic journals online, as a publishing platform.
In 2011 the storage of the remaining retrospective contents was completed, which today allows access to the complete collection of various publications. It is expected that other Faculties of the National University of Comahue will join this initiative with new publications.

The Electronic Journal Portal of the National University of Comahue provides the editors of journals belonging to academic units with a reliable hosting solution to manage and publish journals via the web.
To achieve this, a professional hosting service is implemented with a powerful open source software tool to manage the editorial processes implemented by journals (Open Jornal System).
This intuitive, easy-to-access and collaborative platform allows the journals on this portal to be visible and with improvements in the indexing of all its content.
The reviews deposited in this portal are managed by the editorial processes of each journal, which administers, preserves and promotes open access of all published content, meeting quality criteria.

Features of its use

Each editor or editorial team configures the necessary requirements for their work, sections, review process, etc.
Article submissions and the entire editorial process are controlled online. With a document indexing system through full text and metadata. With reading tools, based on options enabled by each editor.
It manages email notifications of the progress in the editorial process and allows registered users to receive alerts of published articles.

Processes of a Publishing House

The platform manages the editorial process of the publications, which consists of a submission by the author; a review, an anonymous peer evaluation, followed by the decision of the section editor, who accepts or rejects the publication.
If the submission is accepted in the review phase of the editorial process, it moves to an editing phase that consists of proofreading, layout, and proofreading.
Subsequently, publication of the submission in an issue of the magazine is planned.
Depending on how the magazine has been organized, the editorial process can be carried out by a single editor or by a team of editors, section editors, copy editors, layout artists and proofreaders.

The UNCo Electronic Journal Portal has roles that the system uses to divide the work between the users who are in charge of the various tasks of the editorial process, from the entry of articles to their publication, all following a logical process and at the same time Flexible in the workflow.

Roles:

Site Administrator: Responsible for the overall OJS installation, ensuring server configuration is correct, adding language files, and creating new journals in the installation. The Site Administrator account is created as part of the installation process. Unlike all other roles, there can only be one Site Administrator.

The Journal Administrator is responsible for setting up the journal website, configuring system options, and managing user accounts. This does not involve any advanced technical knowledge, but rather involves filling out web-based forms and uploading files.

The journal Administrator also enrolls Editors, Section Editors, Copy Editors, Layout Editors, Proofreaders, Authors and Reviewers.

The Magazine Manager also has access to other magazine management features and can create new sections for the magazine, set up review forms, edit default email messages, manage reading tools, view statistics and reports and much more. further.

Many magazine administrators also sign up as editors, allowing them to easily manage both magazine settings and submissions in the editorial workflow.

Although the Journal Manager is a journal-specific role, journal administrators should generally be considered trusted users throughout the system, as they have the ability to assume the identities of other users who may be enrolled in other journals.

AUTHORS can submit manuscripts to the journal directly through the journal's website. The author is asked to upload submission files and provide metadata or indexing information (metadata improves searchability for online research and for the journal). The Author may upload multiple files, in the form of datasets, research instruments or source texts that will enrich the article, as well as contribute to more open and robust forms of research and scholarship.

The author can track the submission through the review and writing process, as well as participate in editing and proofreading submissions accepted for publication, by logging into the journal's website.

THE EDITOR supervises the entire review, editing and publication process. The Editor, working with the Journal Administrator, typically establishes policies and procedures for the journal.

In the editorial process, the Editor assigns submissions to Section Editors to see through Submission Review and Submission Editing. The Editor keeps an eye on the progress of the presentation and helps with any difficulties.

Once the review has been completed, the Editor typically sees the submission through the Editing process (including copyediting, production and revision) although in some journals this remains the responsibility of the Section Editor in charge of the review process. of shipping.

The Editor also creates the issues of the journal, schedules submissions for publication, organizes the Index, and publishes the issue as part of the Publication Process. The Editor can restore archived submissions to the In Review or In Edit lists.

Many editors also sign up as magazine managers, allowing them to easily manage both the editorial workflow and magazine setup.

THE SECTION EDITOR manages the review and editing of the submissions to which they have been assigned. In some cases, a Section Editor who is assigned to view submissions through the Review Process will also be responsible for viewing submissions that are accepted through the Editing process (i.e., through editing, production, and proofreading). ).

Often, however, Section Editors only work with the review process, and an Editor, acting in the Section Editor role, sees submissions through the Editing process. The magazine will have a policy on how tasks are divided.

THE REVIEWER is selected by the Editor or Section Editor to review a submission. Reviewers are asked to submit their reviews to the journal's website and may upload attachments for use by the Editor and Author. Reviewers may be graded by Section Editors, again depending on the policies of this journal.

THE CORRECTOR edits submissions for grammar and clarity, works with authors to ensure everything is in place, ensures strict adherence to the journal's bibliographic and textual style, and produces clean, edited copy for an editor to review. layout or production assistant convert it into the galleys that will be in the published format of the magazine.

Some journals have an editor or section editor who fills this role.

THE LAYOUT EDITOR transforms the corrected versions of the galley presentation into HTML, PDF, XML, etc., files that the magazine has decided to use for online publication.

In some cases, the Editor or Section Editor will also act as Layout Editor.

THE EDITOR carefully reads the galleys in the various formats in which the magazine publishes (as does the author). The Proofreader (and Author) record any typographical and formatting errors for the Layout Editor to correct.

In the case of some journals, the Editor or Section Editor will also act as Proofreader.
